Road Trip on Sept 2008: Part 5
Day 8: Sept 27
When I went back to I-35 from RT 190, after a few miles, I saw a lot of motels! Dooh, I hate when my iPhone tells me the wrong info (one of apps) this time it told me the closest motel was in Killian. I hate when that happens. I passed Dallas and arrived in Plano, TX and found a super 8 no problem. I noticed there were a lot of bikers at the Twin Peaks Restaurant (similar to Hooters) near the motel. I would have loved to go there and eat but I just wasn’t sure if I’d be able to find gluten-free food there. Anyway, I already decided that I want to go to the completely Gluten-free Restaurant at Delicious N Fit. It’s real good, it’s just like an old fashion American restaurant. I contacted one of my old friends from Gallaudet University at that time, Janette and no luck. Thought maybe I’d hang out in Dallas this evening but I was not sure abt the parking issue cuz it’s Saturday.
I went back to the motel and rested for awhile. I finally heard from Janette, it was a little bit late but lucky there will be DPHH (Deaf Professional Happy Hour) in Plano that night where I was able to meet her and figure out from there whether we should go to Dallas or… So I was on my way to Delicious N Fit again from the motel and as I was stopped and ready to enter the main road, one biker rode his Harley bike from the Twin Peaks Restaurant, he came closer to me and tried to talk to me. I was able to read his lips easy which is good and he told me he really liked my bike. He spotted me and asked me, is that a Yamaha? Roadstar? Of course I said yea that’s right.. Smile. He told me his first bike was a Roadstar too. But he really loved my bike and was very impressed how my bike was customized.
I arrived for dinner.
I went to one of the bars in Plano where DPHH hosted. Met Janette and caught up on some news. Met two of her friends and I noticed Dallas Deaf people are very strong natives of TX.. I mean I can’t really recognize almost anyone who’s from Gallaudet or NTID… Interesting. Janette and her friend told me about how sometimes it’s so hard to find parking in the evening in Dallas or… I just knew it was not worth my time and definitely the wrong time to go to Dallas. It was really good to see an old friend again though.
Day 9: Sept 28
When I left for the motel, I thought why not go to downtown Dallas to cruise a little bit since it’s early Sunday morning. But not enough time to cruise so I hit the main highway to get out of Dallas to Memphis, TN. On the way I saw a big rock (abt the same size as ur fist) which bounced and rolled on the road but I dodged it easy cuz it wasn’t really too close to me. I can’t imagine if…
I went to a gas station… I tend to use a credit card for gas but this time, it was denied… Hmm… It happend to me a few days ago in TX so I went to a different gas station… But there was no other gas station near and I needed it now. So I had to go to inside and it turned out I had to give the card to a cashier so she could charge it. Hmm maybe something abt this state, Arkansas, or just a local thing, I dunno. I just hate that kind of situation. When I was riding, it was becoming a real beautiful orange sky with some clouds as the sun set… just a lot of farm fields as I was getting closer to Memphis. I just looked from side to side and back, too beautiful.
Finally I arrived and got a Super 8 motel but it was kind of different, it was more like a tower, had maybe at least 8 floors. I checked in and decided why not go Outback restaurant. It was interesting where I went on the road that night to Outback, I felt it seemed safe, but what do I know? After Outback, I wanted to go to Beale Street to check out all the cool neon signs, people, bars, clubs, etc… It was real cool and noticed a few of the people actually ride or park their real badass custom bikes there. But I didn’t realize Beale Street is kind of small… And it’s like only the best in town out of Memphis… I rode a different way and it’s a really interesting place… I think it’s really cool. I got back to the motel and right across the street from the motel on maybe the 8th floor, that I can’t remmy, there was a real interesting old building so I took a few shots.

One Response to Road Trip on Sept 2008: Part 5
Nice writing, thanks! Memphis still holds a unique place in my heart, I spent a few years there and still remember visits to Graceland, Beale Street, and of course the blues clubs.
